Amid the flurry of machinegun fire and exploding bombs, a soldier in his trench receives an unexpected visit from his parents who wish to have a Sunday family picnic in spite of the scene of war that surrounds them. Another soldier (the enemy) appears and willingly becomes a prisoner of war in order to join them. Friendly conversation ensues and as they celebrate this picnic as a possible end to the war, cruel reality strikes a blow. Recognized as one of the best known works of Arrabal’s absurdist period, we are honored by his presence at Book Fair.
